The 36th District Court has announced a Court wide Amnesty Program designed to help community members bring their accounts current and move forward without additional fees compounding their obligations.
From March 9 through April 2, the Court will waive late fees, penalties, and warrant costs for eligible participants. To qualify, individuals must pay the original fines and costs owed on their adjudicated cases. This program applies broadly to adjudicated matters with assessed fines and costs, though it does not include driver’s license reinstatement fees.
Chief Judge William C. McConico emphasized that the program is intended to remove financial barriers that prevent individuals from resolving outstanding matters. The Court has stated that its staff will be fully committed to assisting participants throughout the process, reflecting an effort to provide meaningful access to resolution rather than simply collecting outstanding balances.

In addition to the amnesty initiative in Detroit, the 34th District Court has received a grant from the Michigan State Court Administrative Office to participate in the Operation Drive License Restoration Program.
The objective of this program is to assist individuals in either restoring a suspended or revoked driver’s license or obtaining a license for the first time. Access to a valid driver’s license is often directly tied to employment opportunities, financial stability, and overall independence.
